Mount Maunganui... New Year .. Til Feb 2008. A Special Place.
Mount Maunganui and Me for the past few months....
A few photographs, and a summary of my time spent here prior to New Year!
As I said in my last post of 'Mount Maunganui'- I arrived here on 12th November 2007, staying at Mount Backpackers. I met some awesome people then...including Lucy from Somerset, Rowena, Surrita (Ireland), Lars, Marco (Germany), Diego, Eduardo, Lucy (Oz), Noah (New Mexico), Patrick (Germany), Tavish (Canada), Christine (Newquay...A Cornwall Lass! lol) .... and loads more , who may have only stayed for a night or several!
I had some great nights out at different houses, at Mount Mellick bar, and also in Tauranga. They included walking up the mount (once by myself initially , and then with Christine, Tavish and Patrick)- also later on having a walk around it with Patrick, where there is a lush little beach (!) and up it a couple of times and around by myself , where I eventually discovered all the sheep, who had been hiding from me all that time, I'm sure ! lol!
The views from it, to me, are astoundingly gorgeous, and I've been so lucky to be able to stay here.
In my spare time I took some swimming lessons (at Baywaves pool...and also in the sea, with Theresa, and also alone! hehe. Pilot bay here I come!) I did have a lot of laughs at myself...but in the end, got there! Wayhey! There's all these pro surfers around...and me learning how to bloody swim! hehe. However the beach is long and vast, and sandy, so is to be enjoyed for laziness too! :D
I then moved onto the Pacific Coast Lodge Backpackers...where I made my home for like 2-3 months!! It was comfortable, clean and cosy!! I really liked it as a hostel, and it was really well run too (although too many rules for some people!!! hehe). But it was a good place for me to leave, work and chill out.... Here I shared the tiny little dorm room (the infamous room 7!) with Theresa and Anna for the whole time (and what can I say about these girls.... I got to know them really well and we shared some times that I will never forget!), and other people, including Sanne, Nicola, Julia...moved in and out. I met so many people here who I will never forget. Tomoko (who Id met in Paihia previously) also worked here as a cleaner!
